Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s oldest and largest protected areas, renowned for its vast open plains, iconic red elephants, and dramatic landscapes shaped by the Galana River. Tsavo East has a hot, dry climate with daytime temperatures ranging from 22°C to 34°C. Rainfall is low and occurs mainly during the long rains (March–May) and short rains (October–December). The dry season enhances wildlife viewing as animals gather around rivers and waterholes.
Tsavo East is famous for its large herds of dust-red elephants, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species. The park hosts over 500 bird species, including ostriches, kingfishers, hornbills, eagles, and migratory birds.
The best time to visit Tsavo East National Park is during the dry months from June to October and January to February, when wildlife is easier to spot. The rainy seasons offer lush scenery and excellent birdwatching opportunities.
